Some practices require you to purchase a pre-made birth kit. The problem with that approach is this: You never use most of the stuff in the kit! We will arrive at your home with most of these things, anyway. There are a few things we do recommend you pick up, however.
There is a specific liner you will need to fit our birth pools. We cannot use the pools without this! We use the "Birth Pool in a Box" brand pools (regular size). You can find the right one at the following links:
Let's face it - Birth is messy. You should have something over your bed to sleep your mattress and good sheets from being ruined. You can buy a fancy waterproof protector, or simply employ the following strategy:
1) Get a cheap shower curtain liner at the dollar store
2) Put it underneath your oldest most stained-up fitted sheet.
3) When we clean up, you can throw both away and sleep on clean sheets!
These are the easiest and most comfortable thing to wear postpartum. Forget mesh underwear and a bulky pad - Get some adult briefs at the store.
You're about to burn a LOT of calories! Throughout your labor, we'll be encouraging you to replenish those calories. Try to focus on energy sources that are easy to digest, and provide electrolytes as well. Gatorade, honey sticks, fruit, granola bars, etc. are all good options.
You may want to invest in a good supply of "padcicles", witch hazel spray, tucks pads, and hemorrhoidal cream. We'll leave you with some instant ice packs, a can of Dermaplast (numbing) spray, and a good peri-bottle.
